About the center

Hillyard streetThe Hillyard Business District is located within the Hillyard neighborhood in northeast Spokane. Located at the north end of the district is Harmon Park with over 10 acres of recreational space. The Hillyard Business District contains pubs & bars, restaurants, a museum, florist, skate park, bead shop, barbershop, coffee shop, many funky & fun shops, antiques & antique expertise (one of only two districts considered an antique district), and auto sales & service, among other businesses.

Hillyard is also designated on the Spokane Register and the National Trust as a Historic Business District. Commonly known as the "Market Street" District, The Hillyard Historic Business District, is a contiguous façade of commercial block buildings erected between 1901 and 1948. The simple one and two-story buildings represent the construction, materials and design of early twentieth century commercial structures associated with a typical working-class town such as Hillyard, a community platted in 1892.

Click here to view Mayor Hession's "Your City" Program Featuring Hillyard . Jim Solomon, Sue Bergman, and Dave Griswold did a great job presenting Hillyard as a great place to live, work, and play. This was the first of what we hope will be many "Your City" programs filmed in a neighborhood business district. Filming began in Jim Solomon's United Hillyard Mall Building but following the interview Channel 5 went out to get film of the murals, the Mann Hall building, the Museum site, the skate park, the façade improvement projects along with other locations. Jim, Sue, and Dave talked of local efforts, economic opportunities, local amenities, festivals, and youth activities.
